Vedic astrology (Jyotisha) is the traditional astrology of India, casting the chart from the Moon, Sun and planets measured against the fixed stars. It gives special weight to the Moon's lunar mansion and is used for personality, life areas, and which planetary period you are in.
The zodiac is aligned to the stars (sidereal), corrected with the Lahiri ayanamsha used by India's official calendar. The Moon's position among 27 lunar mansions sets which planet opens the 120-year Vimshottari period cycle and how much is left at birth. With a birth time, the ascendant and houses are added.
What it asks you for: date of birth
Ascendant and Moon sign, the Moon's lunar mansion, the theme of your current and next planetary period, which planets need care, and good days in the near term.
