From Ace to Two, one thing becomes two: an idea meets another idea, a person meets another person. So Twos in every suit are about relation and balance — Two of Wands weighing two directions from the ramparts, Two of Cups exchanging cups, Two of Swords blindfolded holding both blades, Two of Pentacles juggling.

The core of a Two is tension, and tension isn't necessarily bad: two forces regarding each other is what makes choice, dialogue and balance possible at all. It's the first time the suit meets 'not only me'.

Where you'll recognise it: wanting both, or unwilling to drop either; and in partnerships and relationships just beginning. Running well, a Two is balance and mutual seeing — you match. Stuck, its problem is holding the balance and refusing to break it — the blindfolded figure on the Two of Swords can sit there a very long time. A Two only shows you there are two sides. Walking toward one is the Three's job.
