From Two to Three, tension finds an outlet: two forces combine and produce a third thing. So Threes in every suit are about first results and expansion — Three of Wands watching ships go out from the shore, Three of Cups raising glasses, Three of Pentacles the craftsman and the client looking at the work together for the first time. Three of Swords is the exception that proves it — three blades through a heart is the truth two ideas produced when they met.
The core of a Three is creation: not completion, but the first time something exists that didn't. It's also the first point on the line where other people are involved — collaboration, celebration, being judged.
Where you'll recognise it: the draft is written, the pitch gets its first response, friends know about the relationship. Running well, a Three is a growth phase — the thing has grown and is still growing. Stuck, its problem is mistaking the draft for the final, or the reverse: hiding it because it's rough. A Three is supposed to be rough. That's its stage.
