9 Purple FireThe nine starsNine Star Ki 九星気学

Nine Purple Fire sits due south, on the Li trigram — fire, and also brightness. Li's image in the I Ching is adherence and illumination: fire can't exist on its own, it attaches to fuel and lights what's around it. South is the brightest direction of the day. So Nine Purple's subject is revealing — making the unseen seen.

It shows up in you like this: your feelings are visible and you can't hide them; your judgement about beauty and taste is accurate without your being able to justify it; and you need to be seen — without a response you shrink fast.

Running well, Nine Purple is whoever brings value into view: the same thing passed through you gets seen and remembered, and that is itself the value. Blocked, revealing goes wrong two ways. One is lighting what shouldn't be lit — you see clearly and find it hard not to say, so someone else's dark corner ends up in the open. The other is going out when the fuel goes: doubting your whole self because nobody responded. Nine Purple's practice is checking the fuel first. What are you attached to? That matters far more than the applause does.
