Eight White Earth sits north-east, on the Gen trigram — the mountain. Gen means stopping: standing still, not moving, boundary. North-east is traditionally called the demon gate, and it's the hinge of change — the year turns from winter to spring here. So Eight White's subject is the turn, and the first action of a turn is stopping.

It shows up in you like this: you need solitude to think clearly; you're patient with things that accumulate and do long work better than most; and you decide slowly and then barely shift.

Running well, Eight White is whoever actually completes a change: most people's change is a new setting, and yours is the old stretch genuinely ending. Blocked, stopping becomes stuckness — pausing so long that hesitation passes for prudence, and the season turns while you're still standing there; or a boundary built so high that what should come in is kept out too. Eight White's practice is putting a deadline on the pause. A mountain can break the wind; it doesn't have to break it forever.
