The Fool is zero; the Magician is one — the first card of the journey, and the first appearance of 'I can'. He points one hand to the sky and one to the ground, and on his table lie wand, cup, sword and coin: every suit present. That arrangement is the mechanism. The Magician doesn't have magic; he connects intention above to matter below, with all four kinds of resource to hand.
Where you'll recognise it: the moment an idea finally becomes action, realising you lack nothing and simply haven't started, and the times a few unrelated things click together and work. This card is about agency and capability — not waiting, doing.
Running well, the Magician is the most efficient state there is: clear will, full toolkit, does what he says. Stuck, his problem has two faces — using capability to deceive (yourself included), or having everything on the table and only demonstrating, never producing. The hand pointing upward is the reminder: capability has to stay connected to intention, or it's just sleight of hand.
