Water is the only one of the five with no fixed shape. Its picture is winter and depth: downward, inward, into what can't be seen. That gives it two abilities nobody else has — permeation, getting in where there's no front door, and memory, since water remembers every bend it has run. You'll recognise it in a sensitivity to atmosphere that borders on unreasonable; in how rarely you contradict anyone head-on and how often you get round them anyway; in needing stretches with no people in them — not from dislike, but because you're carrying too much information that was never yours and it has to settle.

Running well, water is your deepest layer of judgement: you know things without being able to say why, and looking back you were usually right. Under strain it goes two ways. One is never taking a position — going round so long that what you wanted disappears too. The other is flooding: emptying out something long-accumulated all at once, frightening everyone including yourself. Both come from the same fact — water has no shape without a container. So what water needs isn't decisiveness. It's a few fixed edges — of time, of space, of relationship. Given banks, water has a direction.
