五行局 is the number that sets the rhythm of the decade cycles: water 2, wood 3, metal 4, earth 5, fire 6. It's derived from the 納音 element of the 命宮 pillar, and the number is itself the nominal age at which the cycles begin — water 2 starts at two and turns every ten years after.

This gets underrated. It doesn't change your stars, it changes when you change chapters — and being a few years offset from everyone else compounds into a genuinely different rhythm. Classmates of the same year: one enters a new stage at 25, another waits until 29. A lot of what gets called being a late developer is simply a different chapter boundary.

So the practical use is calibrating expectation: don't measure yourself with somebody else's timetable. Where your first decade ends is calculable.
