9 is the last of them, and the only one where multiplying by anything and summing the digits brings you back to 9. That property describes its position: 9 doesn't add, it returns whatever passes through it to what it was. So 9's themes are ending, letting go, giving away — not because 9 is unusually selfless, but because it stands at the close of the cycle, holding things that were meant to be handed on so the next round can open.
You'll recognise it here: you understand other people's situations out of all proportion, catching the difficulties of people you barely know; you're usually carrying a few long-unfinished things, and they cost you more than new ones do; and you find it hard to argue for yourself while arguing for someone else takes no effort at all.
Running well, 9 is the one who clears properly: you see the whole arc, so you know what to keep and what to end. That view is what 1 through 8 accumulated into — not innate softness. Blocked, 9 gets caught in not-letting-go: old relationships, old identities, old versions of yourself all kept, so there's no room for the new; or the reverse, using 'I don't need anything' to remove yourself from the picture. The tradition links 9 to completion and to Mars-like imagery, and the point is clearing: clearing takes force, and it takes putting yourself on the list of people being looked after.
