1 is a start, 2 is a pair, 3 has an audience — and 4 is where shape first appears, because four points are what it takes to enclose a plane. So 4 was never about effort; it's about structure: fixing what's still drifting so that it's still there tomorrow. Unglamorous, and without it nothing the first three numbers made survives a quarter.
You'll recognise it here: someone finishes describing an idea and your head has already produced 'who maintains that'; unfounded optimism gives you a physical objection; you can stay with one thing long past the point where others assume you aren't bored — you are bored, you just can't stand leaving it half-done.
Running well, 4 is the stretch where a promise becomes a fact: what you build, people can stand on. That kind of trust accumulates slowly and almost never leaks. Blocked, 4 uses structure to hold off uncertainty — rules getting finer and finer, which is anxiety being managed rather than a problem being solved, and eventually you're inside the enclosure too. The tradition gives 4 earth and the four directions, and the point is boundary: a boundary exists so what's inside can grow, not to keep everything out. So it's worth asking yourself periodically what a given rule is still protecting, or whether it's just still there.
