A Nine is avoiding 'conflict, lost connection, being cut off', and the compensating strategy is to not be the problem — going along, blending in, shrinking your own view until it causes no friction. It's the body-centre type that sleeps on its anger: a One's becomes principle, an Eight's comes straight out, a Nine's is buried until even the Nine can't feel it.
The subtlest part of the mechanism is self-forgetting: a Nine merges into other people's agendas so well that eventually what the Nine wants goes blurry. And the buried anger doesn't vanish; it becomes procrastination, passivity, and a particular stubbornness — you can't push a Nine, the Nine simply doesn't move.
Where you'll recognise it: anything's fine, rarely angry, able to see both sides of any dispute at once, decisions dragged out, hurrying you makes you slower. Running well, a Nine is the most reassuring presence there is: accepting, steady, actually listens, mediates conflicts nobody else can. Stuck, you disappear — from the relationship, from your own life, into the background. Under stress the line runs to Six (anxiety, doubt, overthinking); in growth it runs to Three (finally moving on your own goals, allowing yourself to matter). For a Nine, the moment you say 'I don't want that' is the moment you're back in your own body.
