Definition in Human Design is about whether your fixed centres connect into one piece. Split definition means they connect into two, with an unbridged gap between — each block flows internally, but not across to the other. Around forty-six percent of people are built this way, about as common as single.
Mechanically that means the gate needed to join your two blocks isn't in you, but may be in someone else. So with certain people present you suddenly 'get it' — not because they gave you advice, but because their wiring completed your gap. That's also why split-definition people have a very practical need for relationship: not emotional dependence, but circuit complementarity.
Where you'll recognise it: you run smoother with certain people beside you, certain decisions stall for ages when you're alone, and you're drawn without meaning to be toward people who bridge you. Running well, you're the best at working with others: collaboration isn't a bonus for you, it's lift-off. Stuck, you bridge with the wrong person — someone completes your circuit so you assume it's the right relationship, or the reverse: carrying alone to prove independence. Your gap is meant for people; that's the build. Just choose them well.
