Tai Sui, Sui Po, Three Killingsfrom the year branch Si

Tai SuiTai Sui is in the South-east (Si): by tradition, no digging or major renovation on that side this year.
Sui PoSui Po is in the North-west (Hai), straight across from Tai Sui: the same rule applies.
Three KillingsThe Three Killings sit in the YinMaoChen mountains (North-east, East, South-east): face them if you like, but don't sit with your back to them or start works from that side.

These three come from the year's branch, a different method from the flying stars above. Where both point to the same palace, that palace is the one to keep quietest this year.

Finding the directions

Stand at the centre of the home (or the room) and use your phone's compass.
Step a metre away from walls, the fridge and big appliances, and take two or three readings.
If your compass is set to true north, switch it to magnetic: feng shui uses magnetic north.
This page uses 45° palaces; the compass page (for travel) uses Nine Star Ki's 30°/60° cut. They are two traditions' ways of dividing the circle.

How the chart is made

The nine stars move one step each year, changing at Lichun. This year 2 Black Earth takes the centre and the other eight follow the Lo Shu order — the same chart Nine Star Ki uses for the year.

Quiet or use-often follows the Zibai Jue: 1 White, 6 White, 8 White, 4 Green and 9 Purple are the good stars; 2 Black, 3 Jade, 5 Yellow and 7 Red are the ones to keep quiet.

What to place follows the five elements: for a quiet star, place the element it produces, which slowly draws its force away; for a good star, place the element that produces it. Never the element that attacks it — that stirs it up. The objects themselves vary by school; these are one common reading.

What this page doesn't cover

The house's own chart — Xuan Kong's house chart, which needs the facing and the year it was built — isn't here yet. This page is the nine palaces everyone shares for the year, plus your own Eight Mansions directions.

These placements are what the tradition hands down. A home that is easy to live and move in matters more than getting one object right.
